Today I picked up {willingly} my first book since seminary. I was in a rush to relax {ha!} and I quickly prayed for wisdom on which book to grab off our shelf. My eye caught Henri Nouwen's The Way of the Heart, so I brought it with me. Even before diving in to the richly beautiful, thoughtful text, something in the dust-jacket's mini-intro to the book caught my attention. I've read books on prayer -- there are great ones out there, Richard Foster's Prayer is one of them -- but seeing this definition of prayer got me. I hope the simple truth of this statement -- that praying is being with God in your mind and heart frees you to encounter God's presence today, perhaps even in this very moment.
Amen.
