I walked away from leading my first ever 1/2 day local workshop feeling (exhausted) but giddy. I thought, "I can't believe this is what I get to do at this time in my life." Similar to my experience last month at Hume, I felt like I simply showed up, created a safe space, and Jesus did the rest. It was lovely.
We met at a beautiful local Long Beach home, who's owner generously donated her space for our time. And we came together and explored together how Jesus meets us in our emotions, what happens when it feels like he doesn't, and what the Bible says about our feelings in relation to our growth in Jesus. Then, after a delicious lunch by Gathered Together, I led the group through an experience of using art to lead us into prayer. It was beautiful to watch people respond to his call in their hearts through these images. It was a gift to witness. At the conclusion of our time I loved hearing the few who shared what God did in their hearts. And as I collected the surveys after, I was further excited to read in more detail where God had moved, healed, stirred, called out, and redeemed. Beautiful, beautiful, beautiful. Thank you, Jesus. We're planning another workshop February 21, 2015 - so mark your calendars!

I wasn't sure what to expect as I traveled up the mountains to the fall Hume Lake Women's Retreat. I'd never been to Hume before, and I'd never led a session for 150 people all at one time before. So I was curious to see what Jesus was up to.
He out did himself. Women's lives were touched, healed, restored, and Jesus met many of them in their life circumstances. Throughout the weekend after leading the "Art & Prayer" (optional) session, women came up to me (at times with tears in their eyes) and said, "Thank you," for doing this, showing up, following Jesus, teaching me a new way to meet with him in prayer. I was overwhelmed by their response, and seeing so quickly all that Jesus had stirred in their hearts. And I felt so free. I simply showed up, made a safe space, and Jesus did the rest...and the rest was a lot of goodness in these women's lives. Hume Lake was kind enough to record the session for me, so if you want to follow along using your image pack, or a favorite image of yours, you can do so by clicking here. It's official! The SoCal workshop is scheduled! I'm excited to bring the training I did this summer in San Francisco at RealitySF church to my community here in the Long Beach area. -Christine It's hard to believe... The printing and leather-craft are complete, the orders are picked up and packaged, and the store is now live. This journey is hardly over, but it's just taken a huge turn in the next direction. I couldn't be more excited, satisfied, and grateful. Here's a final look at the last steps in the pre-launch phase: As of yesterday, we even had our very first non-Kickstarter order placed from our online store! Hooray! What's Next: Stay in Touch This is officially the final Kickstarter update (wow, time has gone so quickly!) so if you'd like to stay connected please find us at:
If you're interested in any of these opportunities - or setting up a session for your group or organization - let me know! Lastly, watch Jen Manglos' blog this Tuesday for a post I was invited to write on the E:V / Kickstarter journey. Oh, my goodness I'm so excited! Last week, getting to work with our master craftsmen on the printing and "pocketing" of the project was amazing and oh so inspiring! At first I was a little nervous the "pocketing" (finding a case or box for the cards) wasn't going to work out the way I hoped. Creating your own packaging is apparently a pricey ordeal. But the binder came up with a phenomenal suggestion, using a leather pocket design, that came in right on budget. I could hardly believe we got to move from paper to leather and stay within budget. I'm calling it a miracle. Thank you, Jesus! Oh, yeah, and they're beautiful! What's Next

The desert was more amazing than I imagined. I had the most phenomenal day-trip in the desert with California Overland (the tour company who drove me out to the middle of nowhere in the Borrego Valley). I admit, at first when walking into the "office" I felt: a) like I was transported back to 1983, b) a little nervous I would be murdered on site and never found again (it's literally in the middle of nowhere), and c) had fond memories of our short-term missions trips, given the mix-matched furniture--and once the owner appeared--warm hospitality. After the initial impressions about the eclectic atmosphere dissipated, me and my Chuck Taylor's felt right at home. I slathered on 10-lbs of sunscreen, waited for the others to arrive, and signed my life away on an 8.5x11 piece of paper. Then they loaded us on the "bus"... A bumpy few hours through the desert, after making several stops in the wash we were driving in, and we finally stopped, got out, and they introduced us to this (the cousin to the Grand Canyon): I feel like some of my favorite photos for the project will come from this 4-hour shoot. I'm beyond thrilled. And Then... Fast forward a week to when I met up with my printer, Curtis, in his studio in Signal Hill. I've known Curtis for almost 15-years. In a way we grew up together photographically, and in some ways he mentored me through my growing pains with lighting and photo editing. He's grown into one of the best photo re-touchers and printers in the country. If he didn't like making websites so much I'd have linked it. He printed out the first test prints on the cotton, heavy-weighted paper I selected, and coated them with two different top coats so I could feel and try out the differences. Later today I meet with the master binder at Half Light Bindery to talk boxes and containers for the cards.

Signup for the newsletter, here. ![]() I'm super excited to announce the beginning of our mini-retreat sessions! I'll be offering monthly mini-photography retreat sessions in the Long Beach area (to start) starting in April, 2014. Currently I have April, May, and June sessions posted both on our Facebook page and on Meetup (our group provider). I encourage you to check it out! Sessions currently cost $35 for 2.5 hour retreat sessions. All new members also get a 30-day free trail to the group, so feel free to check it out before you jump into the group! This experience is like a "retreat" in that I hope it to be a time for you to reflect prayerfully with your camera (much like a journal and pen may accompany your prayers). So while our cameras are out, and I will happily answer technical questions, the focus of our time is not a training workshop. • 9am - introduction to one another, the morning's topic, and some photographic tips for photographing with our topic, concluding with a prayer to begin • 9:15am - photography and personal reflection time • 10:15am - gather and travel (in your own vehicles) to a local coffee shop for discussion • 10:30am - guided discussion about our personal experiences interacting with this month's topic Feel free to spread the word! The group is open to new members at all times.
Hooray! Today is the day that our Epiphany: Visio website goes live to the world. I'll continue to add features and pages as the product becomes available for outside orders.
In the meantime, I'll continue blogging and offering visio divina resources here for you. You can now also "Like" us on Facebook at: https://www.facebook.com/EpiphanyVisio Since we're new, if you think of anyone who would be interested in what we're doing would you forward our website? Happy weekend, everyone! Peace, Christine |
